Paralegal Job Description Template

We are looking for a skilled Paralegal to join our legal team and assist our attorneys. Your duties will include supporting cases by conducting interviews, compiling legal research, preparing legal documents, attending trials, and maintaining an organized filing system. You will also be responsible for filing pleadings with court clerks and assisting our lawyers with any other preparation for trial. 

To be successful at this position, you must possess a sharp attention to detail, strong critical thinking abilities, and the ability to manage a busy caseload. 

Paralegal Responsibilities:

  • Research case law, statutes, public records, and other resources for relevant case information
  • Prepare and file affidavits, pleadings, motions, and other legal documents
  • Manage administrative duties (hearings, deadlines, case files, etc.)
  • Meet with attorneys and clients to prepare for trial
  • Assist attorneys with discovery requests 
  • Support the legal team’s efforts with jury selection and witness preparation
  • Respond appropriately to client inquiries
  • Stay current with all relevant laws, rulings, and regulations

Paralegal Requirements:

  • Highly organized and ability to juggle multiple deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience with client interface
  • Strong knowledge of the litigation process, including motions, discovery, evidence, and rules of procedure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program
  • 2+ years of experience in law firm or legal department preferred

Wage Information

Median Annual and Hourly Pay:  $54,500 per year/$26.20 per hour

  • State Government, excluding schools and hospitals $49,220
