Server Job Description Template
We are looking for a motivated Server who can efficiently complete tasks like taking orders, answering menu questions, serving food to customers, handling payment transactions, and clearing tables. A high level of interpersonal skills and a strong interest in customer satisfaction is ideal.
In order to be successful you must maintain a friendly demeanor while working under time pressure and handling several tables at once. Team skills are required as you will be working alongside bussers, cooks, hostesses, and other workers. The ideal server is able to deliver a positive dining experience to all customers, providing service that maintains current customers and helps create new customers through word of mouth.
- Take food and drink orders with accuracy while engaging with customers in a friendly manner
- Thorough knowledge of the restaurant menu in order to answer questions and make proper recommendations
- Prepare tables by setting plates, napkins, utensils, menus, and condiments
- Write, memorize, or enter orders correctly for kitchen staff
- Manage large groups of customers in an efficient and timely manner
- Be attentive to the needs and satisfaction of every customer, and correct any problems
- Collect payments and understand how to split bills in a variety of ways
- Cross-sell and up-sell dessert or drink items as appropriate
- Collaborate with other servers and kitchen/bar staff
- Stamina to work with multiple tables at once
- Opening and/or closing duties requiring proper register documentation
- Experience in a fast-paced and customer-oriented business environment
- Ability to deliver high-quality service when under pressure
- Teamwork and conflict resolution skills

- 2+ years service or hospitality experience
